About me

I am a 22-year old flatwater marathon and sprint kayaker, as well as a quadathlon hopeful. With an ultimate goal of reaching the Olympics for kayaking.

Having joined the sport of kayaking aged 16 (8 years after most top level kayakers start); I have been playing catch up from the outset. Starting so late meant balancing training with 6th form and then university, but I am now trying to bridge the gap between those with several years more experience than me. My training has been proved successful, and I hope to make international squads within the next year. I represent my local canoe club (Bishop’s Stortford Canoe Club) and race in regional and national competitions for them. In addition, whilst I was at Nottingham University I played Canoe Polo nationally and internationally.

Away from sport

I went to Boys' High, in Bishop's Stortford, where I have lived all my life, before moving to Birchwood School for 6th Form. At Birchwood I was part of the Maths class that received the highest grades in the country, before going on to study Maths at Nottingham University. At Nottingham I continued to paddle, training out of Nottingham Canoe Club (alongside top international paddlers such as Jon Schofield, and Tim Brabants), as well as part of the Nottingham Canoe Polo team. Due to personal reasons I ended up leaving university after two years, which was a difficult decision, but has proved to be beneficial to me in the long-term. I now coach at Bishop's Stortford Canoe Club, as well as working full-time as a Junior Securities & Investment Administrator at Tees Financial. Away from my sporting goals, I am working towards qualifying as an Investment Manager. My spare time away from work and training seems to be mainly occupied by frequent trips to Guildford, Surrey, where my girlfriend, Marthe (World Quadrathlon Champion), lives.
